The Interoperability Showcase is an event promoted by Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) for the purpose of demonstrating interoperability while complying with the specifications and technical framework provided within IHE.
In the scenarios presented during the World of Health IT Conference, there was a simulation of the integration of healthcare information among several healthcare facilities from two European countries. Interoperability Showcase visitors were able to witness how the use of international standards generates interoperability between software applications from different vendors that participated in the Showcase.
Considering Europe's environment, where people travel from one country to another, it demonstrated the technical ability to provide crucial information to healthcare professionals, at the moment of care, regardless of which country that information resides in.
ALERT Life Sciences Computing, S.A., participated with the ALERT® EDIS software, using Cross Document Sharing (XDS), which addresses the sharing of clinical information between facilities geographically distributed in a Region Health Information Organization (RHIO).
The software systems at this demonstration, including ALERT® EDIS, had to previously pass IHE interoperability tests prior to the event. These tests were performed during previous Connectathon events held by IHE.
ALERT® EDIS tested and validated specific IHE profiles during the North American Connectathon, in Chicago, in January 2007. ALERT also participated in the European Connectathon, in Berlin, in April 2007.
ALERT has participated in two Interoperability Showcases in the United States. This was the first time ALERT participated in the European Showcase. In the opinion of HIMSS and IHE organizers, this Interoperability Showcase was very successful, not only in technical terms but also in terms of the number of visitors to the World of Health IT, in Vienna.
By participating in the Interoperability Showcase in Vienna, ALERT Life Sciences Computing, S.A. demonstrated that the ALERT® suite of products uses the most recent interoperability standards, on a par with the main healthcare software vendors worldwide.
Vendors participating in this Interoperability Showcase:
ALERT®; Agfa; ICW; ForCare; Initiate; IBM; Kodak; Carestream; PHILIPS; Dräger; Welch Allyn.
